‘DIMITAR BLAGOEV 1925’ PEOPLE’S COMMUNITY CENTER – the town of Dobrinishte

Communitiy activities in Dobrinishte date back as far as 1919.There was a library corner established in the boza shop. It was there where the first books ans the magazines ‘Svetulka’ and ‘Priroda’ were received. As there was no theatre, the village barn – the place where the tithe used to be gathered from the population by the Turks – was transformed into such. In 1920, the first play was staged – the comedy ‘The Three Corporals’.

Although there is extensive cultural activity, the cultural center as such was established in the spring of 1925.It was named ‘Podem’ (Uplift) Community Center. Shrortly after its foundation, it received its statutes, seal and minute book. In 1953 its name was changed into ‘Dimitar Blagoev’.

Artistic and library activity are constantly developing throughout the years. In the library of the Community Center books of 1914 are kept, issued by ‘Nov Zhivot’ (New Life) printing house, ‘Bulgarian Library History’ of 1930 as well as some books of 1937. The library has seven computers, multimedia and multifunctional device, which makes it a modern library and an information center of nowadays, used by the residents of the town, as well as by the guests and tourists that visti it.

The activities of the Community Center nowadays are constantly expanding. There are more than a hundred amateur performers, with their number continuously growing. The youngest performers are just three years old, while the oldest singer is already eighty. There is mutual understanding and respect between people of different generations; when they sing or dance, their age just does not matter.
